Bogue Chitto claims two over McLaurin

FLORENCE – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats and Lady Cats visited Florence Friday night to battle the McLaurin Tigers and came away with two big victories.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Cats started scoring early and finished strong to put up an impressive 61-20 victory over the Lady Tigers of McLaurin.
In the boys’ contest, the Bobcats captured their first victory of the season with a 63-60 win over McLaurin
Bogue Chitto returns to action Monday as they prepare to host their Lincoln County rival, the Enterprise Yellow Jackets, for four games. Junior varsity action starts at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity games at 6 p.m.
Bogue Chitto 61, McLaurin 20
The Lady Cats went on a 10-2 run to end the first quarter. In the second quarter, Terrah Nelson started the quarter off with a three-point shot to spark their 20-5 run to extend their lead 30-7.
The high-powered Lady Cats came out of the locker room and picked up where they left off. The Lady Cats would score 17 points in the third quarter to extend their lead over the Lady Tigers 47-15.
Sophomore Terrah Nelson led the charge scoring 10 points in the second half with three treys and going four-of-four at the free throw line.
“We came out playing well offensively and defensively,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “We did a great job hitting the board tonight. I’m proud of all the girls. They hustled, played hard and everyone got playing time.”
Terrah Nelson led the team with 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. Christian Black had 13 points and seven rebounds. Zariah Matthews had 11 points, two rebounds, five assists and five steals. Karlie Williams had 10 points, three rebounds and a steal. Taneshia May had eight points, 21 rebounds and one assist. Shakiriana Jefferson had five points, three rebounds and a steal. Lineka Newson had eight rebounds and a steal. Tukiyah Godbolt had an assist and four steals. Kylie Hux had a rebound and a steal.
Mary Maxwell was the top scorer for the Lady Tigers with 13 points.
Bogue Chitto 63, McLaurin 60
The Bobcats came in the ballgame looking for their first win of the season. Coach Mark Pitts and his squad were hoping that tonight would be the night.
The Bobcats and Tigers provided an exciting game for their basketball fans as both teams fought back and forth in an defensive contest as BC took a 22-19 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Tigers came out and scored 20 points in the third with the Bobcats scoring only 16 points. In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats were down by three points in the last seconds of the ballgame. D.J. Nunnery came up big for BC, when he nailed a three-point shot to tie the ballgame to take it into overtime.
In overtime, Henry Thomas sparked the Bobcats with a big three-point shot, but BC managed to preserve the win from the free throw line to pull off a 63-60 win over the Tigers.
Jeremiah Perkins was the offensive leader for BC with a team-high double-double of 19 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and one block. D.J. Nunnery contributed 17 points, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Henry Thomas provided 9 points, one assist, three steals and a block. Dakota McGary had seven points, three rebounds and an assist. Will Fauver scored five points, eight rebounds, an assist and two blocks. Matthew Black added four points and seven rebounds. Tyler Brumfield had three points. Brooks Ingles helped on the boards with six rebounds and two assists. Brandon Blackwell had a rebound.
