Funeral Services for Charles Wesley Edwards of Bogue Chitto are 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at New Zion Union M.B. Church with burial in the church cemetery. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, from 1 until 6 p.m. at Williams Mortuary.
Mr. Edwards, 61, died Nov. 1, 2014, at G.V. Sonny Montgomery Veteran Medical Center. He was born on Feb. 23, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois to Cleophas Billy and Nelma Blackwell Edwards.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended Lincoln County Training School in 1962. He then attended Jackson State University for two years before being drafted. He retired and served as president over the Bogue Chitto-Lincoln County Community Center. Mr. Edwards was a member of New Zion M.B. Church where he was a Sunday school teacher.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and two brother-in-laws.
Survivors are his wife, Annie Lewis Edwards of Bogue Chitto; loving and devoted companion, Betty Washington May of Bogue Chitto; children, Tamesha May of Brookhaven, and Robert “Bubba” May Jr. of Brookhaven; grandchildren, Ty’ May, Dee May, Deryea May and Treasure May, all of Brookhaven; siblings, Clarence (Bernadine) Edwards of Brookhaven, Carl Henry (Cecilia) Edwards of Bogue Chitto, Bobbie Ann Deer of Bogue Chitto, Linda Kelly of Bogue Chitto, Janice Lewis of Bogue Chitto, Lisa (Willie) Tolliver of Tylertown and Rochelle (Byron) Braxton of Lakeland, Florida; 10 adopted children, Gregory Lewis of California, Felicia (William) Bledsoe of Brookhaven, Rhonda (Antwain) Ford of Columbus, Valarie Brumfield of Tylertown, Leonard Kelly of Brookhaven, Lasedrick Kelly of Brookhaven, Mae Judy Griffin, Lorece Mackey and Onieda Mackey, all of Hattiesburg and Jennell (Montral) Smith of Brookhaven; special aunts and uncles, Velvelyn (E.C.) Foster of Jackson, Elnora Dorsey of Bogue Chitto, Matthew Blackwell of Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
