Lady Bears secure a victory over Wesson

The West Lincoln Lady Bears and the Wesson Lady Cobras provided an exciting contest Monday night as both teams fought hard in a make-up game as the Lady Bears managed to remain undefeated on the season with a 6-3 victory over the Lady Cobras in slowpitch softball action.
“We need to do a better job scoring runs when runners are on base and be more patient at the plate,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd.
The Lady Bears (12-0, 1-0) will be in action today as they prepare to host the Lawrence County Cougars. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 6 p.m.
The Lady Cobras (4-6) begin their march in Region 7-3A action tonight as they visit Crystal Springs to take on the Lady Tigers. Junior varsity action starts at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 5 p.m.
West Lincoln 6, Wesson 3
The Lady Bears came out and set the tone of the game early in the bottom of the first inning by grabbing a 2-0 lead.
Wesson rallied back in the top of the second inning to keep the game close by pushing one run across, but West Lincoln answered by scoring two more run in the bottom of the second.
The Lady Cobras did not let West Lincoln take over the contest as they fought back in the top of the third inning with a two-run rally. Throughout the rest of the game, both team provided an exciting defensive battle between the bottom of the third to the top of the fifth inning.
The Lady Bears managed to break up the defensive battle in the bottom of the fifth inning by scoring two more runs to secure a 6-3 advantage and held on for the win.
MaKennah Redd was the winning pitcher for West Lincoln with one strikeout and one walk.
Madison Jones suffered the setback for the Lady Cobras with no strikeouts and two walks.
Micah Redd, Alli Mullins, Anna Brooke Davis and Hanna Moak powered the Lady Bears at the plate with a pair of singles. Hitting safely were MaKennah Redd and Layton Sills.
Kayla Britt was the offensive leader for Wesson with a double and two singles. Kaitlyn Smith and Abby Meredith contributed two singles apiece. Brooke Jones, Harmoni Ashley, Aurianna Vaughn and Madison Jones hit safely.
“Leaving the bases loaded twice in a close game like this really hurt us at the end,” said Wesson coach Michelle Nunnery. “We need to do a better job capitalizing on offense when we have runners on base. Now, we must regroup and get ready for our first region test against Crystal Springs.”
In JV action, Wesson defeated West Lincoln 9-3.
Riley Smith pitched the win for Wesson. McKenzie Pyles (0K, 4BB) and Anna Brooke Davis (0K, 2BB) absorbed the setback for West Lincoln.
Arie Douglas, Madison Boleware, Riley Smith, Natalie Bonds and Shaylin Green paced the Lady Cobras’ offense with a single each.
Jana Case directed the Lady Bears at the plate with a triple. Meagan Gerald provided a double and Skylar Hall hit a single.
