Lady Bears secure two victories

MEADVILLE — West Lincoln High School pulled together two wins at the Franklin County Classic slow pitch softball tournament Saturday against Lawrence County High School and Brookhaven High School.
The Lady Bears (2-0) will be in action today as they travel back to Meadville to take on the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.
W. Lincoln 10, Lawrence Co. 8
In West Lincoln’s first game, the Lady Bears defeated Lawrence County 10-8 in a high scoring seven-inning contest. West Lincoln made there way around the bases five times in the first inning creating an unmatched early lead. Lawrence County came back with a run in the second but was met with another three from West Lincoln in the third.
The Lady Cougars came alive in the third bringing home four women and another three in the fourth to tie the game.
The fifth and six innings were tight resulting in no runs for either team, but coming into the seventh West Lincoln scored two runs to secure the win.
Makennah Redd pitched the win for the Lady Bears with no strikeouts and four walks.
Barri Rogers suffered the setback for the Lady Cougars with two strikeouts and no walks.
Brianna Fauver was the top hitter for West Lincoln with a triple and two singles. Malori Hall, Hanna Moak and Alli Mullins contributed a pair of singles. Layton Sills, Makennah Redd and Millane Lewis ripped a double each. Anna Davis hit safely.
Tierra Collins provided the offensive power to lead the Lady Cougars with a home run, a double and a single. Alexsundria Thomas contributed a double and a single. Madison Hyde belted two singles. Callie Fortenberry had a double. Hitting safely were Jamie Martin, Lexie Johnson, Cheyenne Long, Jordan Harp, Bass and Peavey.
W. Lincoln 4, Brookhaven 1
In their second game, West Lincoln was not able to rack up as many runs against Brookhaven, but still took the win 4-1.
They took an early lead in the first bringing home one run that was left unmet by Brookhaven until the fourth. West Lincoln broke the tie in the sixth with three runs for the win.
Moak was the top hitter at the plate for the Lady Bears with two doubles. Anna Davis, Millane Lewis and Micah Redd provided a pair of single each. Fauver had a triple. Makennah Redd, Mullins and Malori Hall hit safely.
Brook Fallon paced the Lady Panthers’ offense with two singles. Katherine Shell, Tia Bussey and Kat Wallace hit a single each.
