BA Lady Cougars win three

COLUMBIA – The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars are riding a four-game winning streak after winning three straight games in Columbia Academy softball tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Cougars defeated Newton County Academy 7-2 in the opener, clobbered Presbyterian Christian 6-2 in the second game and won 6-2 over Wayne Academy in the finale.
“WOW!” said BA first-year coach Becky Flowers. “I couldn’t be more excited for my girls. My seniors stepped up big at the plate. It was a total group effort for everybody and also the parents who were grilling lunch under the trees. Now, we must get ready to get back to work Monday against Trinity.
BA (5-2) travels to Natchez Monday to battle the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints. Junior varsity action starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 5:30.

Olivia Lofton was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cougars with two strikeouts and four walks. Alex Rae Smith (0K, 1BB) collects the save in relief.
Anna K. Smith was the offensive leader at the plate for BA with two singles. Anna Grace Covington contributed a double, and Morgan Walker had a single.
BA 6, PCS 2
Alex Rae Smith tossed the victory for BA with game two collecting five strikeouts and allowed only two walks.
Walker powered the Lady Cougars’ offense with two singles. Hitting safely were Cameron Watson and Covington.
BA 6, Wayne Acad. 2
Lofton capture her second win of the evening on the mound for the Lady Cougars with no strikeouts and two walks.
Olivia Thornton was the top hitter at the plate for BA with a double and a single. Anna Smith, Walker and Lofton hit safely.
