Summer is traditionally a time for weddings, and a seminar is coming up in August to help area couples start their lives together on a firm foundation.
The Crisis Pregnancy Center of Southwest Mississippi will be holding a Marriage Seminar Simulcast on Friday, Aug. 8, and Saturday, Aug. 9. The seminar is a nationwide simulcast from Marriage Today called “Becoming One.” During the two-day seminar, spouses will learn how to become one mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.
Speakers will include Jimmy and Karen Evans, the founders of Marriage Today; Nancy Houston, a licensed professional counselor and certified Christian therapist; and Caroline Leaf, a communication pathologist and audiologist.
Jimmy and Karen Evans bring more than 25 years of experience, equipping and teaching couples to restore the dream of marriage in America. They have encouraged and coached countless couples in building rewarding marriages and healthy homes.
Houston currently serves as an associate marriage and family pastor at Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. As an overseer of crisis marriages, she is passionate about seeing people free from their past and living life to its fullest.
Dr. Leaf works in the area of cognitive neuroscience, focusing specifically on the science of thought as it pertains to thinking and learning. She developed a theory and did some of the initial research back in the 1990s proving that the mind can change the brain and can effect behavioral change as seen academically and emotionally.
A large part of her research in recent years has been to link scientific principles with scripture showing how science is catching up with the Bible. She applied the findings of her research in clinical practice for nearly 20 years and now lectures and preaches around the world on these topics.
She is a prolific author of many books, articles and scientific articles. She has her own show on TBN called Switch on Your Brain. Her passion is to help people see the link between science and scripture as a tangible way of controlling their thoughts and emotions, learning how to think and learn and finding their sense of purpose in life.
The seminar is for couples of any age: married, engaged or in a serious relationship. This is an adult environment, with no children allowed. The cost is $35 per couple. Receipts will be available for tax purposes. The entire donation will go to the Crisis Pregnancy Center to help fund services and programs.
The event will be held at First Baptist Church, Summit.
