In regard to feedback about some projects that have appeared publicly to be stagnant, Brister said that the district is simply addressing sporting facilities as the budget allows.

“We’re basically slowing down to do what we need,” he said. “If something is not in dire need it may get put on the back burner.”

Brister said the district does projects in phases to help save costs.

“Our dire needs are educational,” he said. “The other will come.”

Assistant superintendent Letha Presley presented a dental program for children for the board to consider. The program will give students a oral check-up at no cost and includes using sealants and fluoride. If the check-up reveals a cavity, a follow-up with the parent will be conducted to try to get the student to the dentist. The program is part of the Mississippi State Oral Health Plan.

The consent agenda included:

• Hiring of faculty and staff

• Loyd Star collection of money from students for cross country uniform

• Collaborative agreement for the 2014-2015 school year between Mississippi Action for Progress, Inc. and the Lincoln County School District in regards to the New Zion Head Start Center.

• Advertisement to accept bids for remodeling and construction in locker rooms at Loyd Star.
