A local woman escaped a devastating house fire uninjured early Friday morning and is currently staying with family.
The Brookhaven Department received a 911 call at 3:50 a.m. Friday and responded to a fire at a residence at 523 Curran Ave. When the firefighters arrived, flames had already gutted the house. The scene was cleared by 6 a.m.
Brookhaven Fire Chief Tony Weeks said Ponjola German escaped the house with no injuries but was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center for possible smoke inhalation.
She was released from the hospital this morning and is currently staying with family. Family members reported that German lost everything in the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
