Reyes and Robinson take talents to the next level

SUMMIT – Two more members of the 2013-14 Southwest Lady Bears basketball team will be continuing their careers at the next level now that Raven Reyes and Elayne Robinson have found a home for the upcoming year. This brings to six the number of players from last season’s record-setting team who will be playing at a four-year school.

Reyes (6′ 3″, C), a graduate of John Jay High School (San Antonio, TX) has signed to play for the Lady Blue Devils of Dillard University (New Orleans). A transfer from Southeastern Louisiana University, she averaged 2.4 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in her only year at Southwest.

Southwest head coach Brent Harris said, “We are so happy for Raven that she will be at Dillard for the remainder of her career. Raven is very unselfish and is a great teammate. (She) will be a tough matchup in their league.”

Robinson (5′ 11″ C), a product of Warren Central High School (Vicksburg, MS) has secured a spot with the Lady Wildcats of Wiley College (Marshall, TX). She totaled 2.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for the Lady Bears during the past campaign.

“Elayne was a big part of our success (this past season),” said Harris. “She took more charges than anyone else. She is a tremendous student with a great attitude.”

Reyes and Robinson helped the Lady Bears complete the best season in school history. The team ended the year with a 21-9 mark, advancing to the championship game of the Region 23 and MACJC state tournaments. They also made the school’s first-ever appearance in the NJCAA national championship tournament.
