The Lincoln County Farmer’s Market will open Friday at 7:30 a.m. in Railroad Park.
Rebecca Bates, agent at the Lincoln County Extension Services office, said despite a cool and wet spring, she expects plenty of produce at the opening in addition to homemade products like bread, artisan cheeses and cake. She said Alderman Farms have also been certified to sell farm eggs, and they will be available at the market.
The market will be open every Friday from 7:30 a.m. until noon and every Tuesday from 3 unti 6 p.m. throughout the growing season. Friday markets will be in Railroad Park, and Tuesday markets will be at the Godbold Transportation Center.
The extension office will be holding a dairy day June 13 in conjunction with the Farmer’s Market, including free chocolate milk and ice cream. Dairy day will also include a dairy cook-off at the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce. Bates said there will be two divisions, youth for ages 7 to 17 and adult for 18 and up, and three categories, appetizer, main dish and dessert.
Registeration will begin at 10 a.m. and judging will take place 10:45 a.m. Each dish must have at least one cup of dairy. Ribbons and cash prizes will be given.
Bates did warn that sweet corn probably will not be in until next week, and tomatoes should be trickling in at the end of next week. Farmers have reported that potatoes, squash, onions and cucumbers will be available.
