Lady Cats edge Stringer for Game One

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats managed to shake off the rust to capture a 6-5 victory over the Stringer Lady Red Devils in Game One of the Class 1A South State Championship Monday afternoon in softball action.
“The girls did a great job battling back,” said BC coach Scot Leggett. “You can really tell that we were very rusty after being off for nine days. Now, we need to refocus and take care of business at Stringer.”
The Lady Cats (26-6) will be in action today as they travel to Stringer to take on the Lady Red Devils for Game Two. The contest is set to start at 5 p.m. If a Game Three is needed it will start 20 minutes after the conclusion of Game Two.
Bogue Chitto 6, Stringer 5
The Stringer Lady Red Devils came out strong and quickly set the tone of the contest in the first three innings of action as they grabbed a 5-2 lead.
Bogue Chitto rallied back in the fourth inning in the cut down Stringer’s lead at 5-4, before capturing the first lead of the game in the fifth inning at 6-5.
Both teams provided an exciting defensive contest as Stringer threatened to fight back to reclaim their lead, but the Lady Cats defense managed to stay strong and deny the Lady Devils the ability to secure the win.
Alana Nettles was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cats with three strikeouts and no walks in five innings of work. Christian Black collects the save pitching two innings in relief with two strikeouts and one walk.
Madison Scoggin suffered the loss for the Lady Red Devils with four strikeouts and one walk.
Black provided the offensive power to lead BC at the plate with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Mattie Avants contributed a triple and a double. Terrah Nelson and Zariah Matthews provided a pair of singles each. Hitting safely were Daley Roberts, Alana Nettles and Colby Kirkland.
Kaitlyn McCurdy was the top offensive hitter for Stringer with three singles. Ashley Valentine, Madison Parker, Morgan Smith, Jamie Wade and Scoggin hit safely.
