Sybil Thames Johnson

Funeral services for Sybil Thames Johnson of Oakdale are 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Oakdale First Baptist Church with burial in Union Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Michael McIntosh and Greg Willis will be officiating. Rush Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation was held Monday, April 28, 2014, from 5 until 10 p.m. at Oakdale Baptist Church and will continue at the church on Tuesday, April 29, from 8 a.m. until time of service.

Mrs. Johnson, 72, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at her residence peacefully with her loving family by her side. She was born on Dec. 7, 1941, in Tylertown, to Ozzie and Meryl Thame.

She worked at Elizabeth Bag Plant, Howard’s Department store, Walmart, Abrusely’s Clothing Store and the First Baptist Church Thrift Store. She lived her life to the fullest. She spent many hours fishing and taking pictures of God’s beautiful creations. One of her favorite past times was spending time with her children and grandchildren and watching them participate in sports.

When you saw Sybil, you were greeted with a beautiful smile and she never met a stranger. Sybil was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Those that knew her loved her. Sybil and her two sisters loved traveling to spend time together and making memories. Taking photos at family gatherings was always been very important to her.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sons, Robert “Robbie” Johnson, Ronald “Ronnie” Johnson; her granddaughter, Mica Johnson; and one sister, Shirley Gray.

Survivors are her husband, Charles A. Johnson of Oakdale; one son, Jeffery Johnson of Oakdale; three daughters, Jennifer Perkins and her husband, David, of Lecompte, Kristi Johnson of Oakdale, Deborah Cleghorn and her husband, Jerry, of Pineville; one daughter-in-law, Leigh Shoemake Johnson of Oakdale; grandchildren, Keith Johnson and his wife, Kara, Misty Johnson, Ron Johnson and his wife, Jessica, Kelly Johnson, Ashley Billot and her husband, Edwin, Rachel Johnson, Lauren Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Meagan Mills and her husband, Bryan, Mandy Johnson, Rebecca Martin, Tim Johnson, Katie Johnson, Alex Perkins, Jessica Kingan, Garrett Kingan, Jacob Ebert, Derek Doyle and his wife, Mary, Stephanie Billeaud and her husband, Jock, Erin Caudel; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Glenda Thornhill and her husband, Bobby, of Brookhaven; her very special friend, Mary Bertrand of Oakdale; numerous nieces and nephews and whole bunch of Johnsons.

Grandsons honored to serve, as pallbearers are Keith Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Ron Johnson, Alex Perkins, Tim Johnson, and Garrett Kingan. Honorary pallbearers, Derek Doyle, Tim Thornhill, Chris Thornhill, Lance Gray, and Jacob Ebert.
