MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars claimed a 10-5 win over the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats Tuesday night in softball action.
“I was very pleased with the team’s overall performance,” said LCHS coach Meleah Howard. “We responded and took advantage of every opportunity. The girls battled a very tough team that never quits fighting. Defense was the key to the win and Elizabeth pitched well. Overall this was a good win for us before going into district action.”
The Lady Cougars (10-1, 2-0) travel to Columbia Thursday to battle the Columbia Lady Wildcats. Junior varsity starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.
The Lady Cats (8-4) begins Region 7-1A action Thursday as they prepare to host the St. Aloysius Lady Flashes. The junior varsity contest starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.
Lawrence Co. 10, Bogue Chitto 5
The Lady Cougars came out and quickly set the tone of the contest by grabbing a 6-0 lead in three innings of action.
Bogue Chitto answered in the top of the fourth and trimmed into Lawrence County lead by pushing across three run as the Lady Cougars held on to a 6-3 lead.
Lawrence County would manage to increase their lead to 10-3 in the fifth inning.
The Lady Cats continued to battle back, but only managed to score one run in the sixth and seventh innings.
Elizabeth Smith was the winning pitcher for LCHS with seven strikeouts and three walks.
Christian Black suffered the setback for the Lady Cats with six strikeouts and six walks.
Jasmin Thomas and Callie Fortenberry were the top sluggers for the Lady Cougars with two singles apiece. Alyssa Pendergrass, Tierra Collins and Madison Hyde hit safely.
Alana Nettles and Black were the offensive leaders at the plate for Bogue Chitto with a pair of singles. Colby Kirkland hit a single.
