Bulldogs clip Hornets, falls to Natchez Cathedral

BUDE – In a 16-hour span the Franklin High Diamond Dawgs felt the fury of a loss and the sweet taste of victory.
The Bulldogs lost to Natchez Cathedral Friday night 4-2, but captured a 5-4 win over Loyd Star Saturday afternoon.
FC resumes play Monday at ACCS, with first pitch set for 7.

Cathedral completed a three-game season sweep of the Bulldogs with a hard fought win at ‘The Swamp.’
Hoby Mullins and Bryce White had RBI hits for the Bulldogs. Mullins also had a stolen base.
FC senior Derrick Brumfield went the distance on the mound, striking out four.
Franklin Co. 5, Loyd Star 4.
The Hornets took an early 2-0 lead only to see things tied up at 4-apiece heading into the seventh inning, and pushed across the game winning run in the eighth inning.
Franklin High plated the winning run to collect a much-needed victory.
Brumfield, Mullins and junior outfielder Bernard Selmon led the Bulldogs with two hits apiece. Selmon had two RBI’s.
For the Hornets, Levi Redd and Parker Flowers plated two hits and a RBI. Seth Farmer and Konner Allen hit safely.
“We did not do a good job making adjustments at the plate,” said Loyd Star coach Jared Britt. “Our defense and pitching did a good job for us. We have to continue to make improvements in each phase of the game.”
Peyton Flowers absorbed the setback for the Hornets with one strikeout and no walks. Caleb Yarbrough saw action on the mound for Loyd Star and struck out four batters. Parker Flowers started for the Hornets.
