The Ole Brook Panthers placed 5th in the South State Powerlifting meet held at Gautier over the weekend.
Anthony Wilson and Jay Trunner won the 308 and 198 weight classes respectfully, while Darius Pendleton and Stephen Springfield placed 2nd and 5th in the 123 and 242 classes.
“Coach Bland and myself are extremely proud of how our guys performed,” said Ole Brook Panthers Power-Lifting coach Russ Britt. “To only have 4 lifters and place 5th says so much about our guys effort. We missed 4th place by 1 point and finished with 20 points overall.”
The Panthers have been practicing for South State to get better and stronger in recent weeks.
“We would also like to thank Todd Peavey for allowing our guys to use the facility at King’s Daughters Fitness Center,” added Britt.
The state meet will be held April 5th at the Coliseum. Wilson, Trunner, and Pendleton all qualified and will participate in the state competition.
Wilson squatted a personal best 585 benched, 335 and deadlifted 530 for a 1450 total. Trunner squatted 450 benched a personal best 240 and deadlifted a personal best 540 for a total of 1230. Pendleton squatted 260, benched 140 and had a personal best deadlift of 350 for a 750 total. Springfield had a 450 personal best squat along with a personal best bench of 245 and a deadlift of 500 for a total of 1195. Springfield barely missed a deadlift of 565, which would have placed him 3rd.
