SUMMIT – Guards Katrina Littlepage and April Levy have helped the Southwest Lady Bears to one of the program’s best seasons ever. Their efforts have also helped them earn individual honors, which were handed out at the recent meeting of the MACJC coaches.
The Lady Bears are currently 21-8 and made appearances in the MACJC state tournament and NCJAA Region 23 tournament. They had an 11-game winning streak at one point during the season. Next week, they will play in the NJCAA’s national championship tournament.
Littlepage (5′ 6″-Slidell, LA) is leading the team with 16.6 points per game and has hit 73% of her free throws. She was named to the All-Region team and was also a 1st Team All-State selection.
Levy (5′ 6″-Jackson, MS) is second on the team in scoring with 12.4 points per contest. She has hit 72% of her free throws. She was also named to the All-Region team and was a 2nd Team All-State honoree.
Both players were named to the All-Tournament team following last week’s Region 23 tournament.
Speaking of the duo, Southwest head coach Brent Harris said “We are very proud of the individual recognition that Katrina and April have received. They are very deserving of these honors.”
“We all view this as team recognition as well,” he continued, “because good teams receive more awards and their teammates had a lot to do with their success.”
The Lady Bears depart Saturday for the long bus ride to Salina, KS, for the national tournament. They will face 6th-ranked Butler (KS) Community College Monday night at 8:30.
