The BA Lady Cougars and ACCS Lady Rebels locked up Saturday afternoon with the District 5AA title on the line and they didn’t disappoint the large crowd in attendance.

After four hard fought quarters of basketball, the Lady Rebels from Natchez pulled away down the stretch to claim a 59-47 victory over BA.

Going into the locker room at half down 15 points, the Lady Cougars stormed back in the third period and cut the lead to 2 points to the delight of the Lady Cougar faithful.

“I was really proud to see our girls fighting back tonight after being down by double digits at half. They kept playing hard and made it a great ballgame to be a part of.” said BA head coach Mack Gardner. “We have to take the same energy we showed in the second half into the South State Tournament Tuesday night.”

Senior guard Madison Warren led the Lady Cougar attack with 18 points on the evening. Lindsey Winborne added 13 and Hillary Wilson chipped in 9 toward the BA total.

Tory Laird led the Lady Rebels with 21 points.

In the second halftime, ACCS continued to rely on their tough defensive plan as held the Cougars in check to preserve the win.

Junior forward Peyton Hood was the offensive leader for the Cougars with a game-high double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Zac Smith chipped in with 16 points. Travis Thorton paced BA on the boards with 11 rebounds.
