Martin Luther King Jr. parade slated Sunday

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Brookhaven-Lincoln County NAACP Branch, the Community Action Group of Brookhaven Inc. and other concerned citizens and groups will be holding the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade in Brookhaven Sunday, Jan. 19.
Line-up time will be 3 p.m. in from of Williams Mortuary on East Minnesota Street. The parade will end at Alexander Junior High School, where a program, titled “Bridging the Gap: His Dream, Our Reality,” will commence with Deputy Superintendent Stephanie Henderson as guest speaker.
Henderson has worn a number of hats in her seven years of service with the Brookhaven School District, including serving as interim superintendent last year.
Participants are asked to place a sign that identifies their respective organization and/or church affiliation on parade vehicles such as motorcycles, church vans or floats. There will be a fee of five dollars per vehicle.
