Southwest returns to the court Monday night when they travel to Wesson to face the Co-Lin Wolves and Lady Wolves. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. for the women’s game, followed by the men’s contest at 8.

Southwest 61, Holmes 45

Southwest took a 39-19 first half lead over the Lady Bulldogs behind Katrina Littlepage’s 11 points. The game was tied twice in the first 3:33, but when April Levy nailed a three-pointer with 16:45 left in the half, the Lady Bears took an 8-5 lead and were never seriously challenged the rest of the way.

In the second half, Holmes narrowed their deficit to 12 points, 41-29, with 15:25 left to play. However, with Levy scoring eight points, the Lady Bears then went on a 14-4 run to push the lead up to 22 points, 55-33, with 8:09 remaining and they cruised to the 16-point win.

Levy led the Lady Bears, and all scorers, with 16 points in the game. Littlepage and Myers were also in double figures, both with 11 points. Fredrikah Wilson netted nine points in the game while Courtney Epting had five and Talisa Sherman added four.

Raven Reyes scored three points for the home team with Elayne Robinson picking up two. The Lady Bears hit 12 of 17 free throws.

Southwest 87, Holmes 81

Thirteen points from Chris Jones and 11 from Deione Weeks helped the Bears to a 45-44 lead at end of a back and forth first half that saw five ties and two lead changes in the final 6:24. After trailing by as many as 10 points, Holmes tied the game at 27-27 and the teams traded baskets until the break.

The second half was much like the last few minutes of the first half with five ties and nine lead changes. A Corey Williams jumper gave the Bears a seemingly comfortable 67-59 lead with 7:55 left in the game, but Holmes quickly came back to force a 69-69 tie with 6:24 on the clock.

With the game tied at 75-75, and 3:42 to play, another lay-up by Williams put the Bears on top 77-75. They then made six of seven free throws down the stretch to take the narrow victory.

Jones and Weeks finished the night with 22 and 16 points, respectively, to pace the Bears’ offense. Twymond Howard had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Xavion Dillon was also in double figures with 10 points.
