Colorado Rockies starting leftfielder and leadoff batter Corey Dickerson will make a guest appearance Thursday, Jan. 9, at the “Night on the Diamond” at the King’s Daughters Medical Center Performance Center.
“I’m looking forward to coming back to the area and seeing a lot of friends and fans,” said Dickerson, a Brookhaven native whom played at Brookhaven Academy High School before being drafted out of Meridian Community College in the eighth round of the 2010 MLB Draft by the Rockies.
The 6-1, 210-pound Dickerson was recently named one of the Rockies’ future stars by MLB Network. The Rockies’ recent trade of star centerfielder Dexter Fowler to the Houston Astros has thrust Dickerson into the spotlight as one of its top players and fan favorites.
“It’s an everyday game and you have to stay ready for anything,” said Dickerson. “I’ve been training hard this off season. Training every day and working to be the best I can be for the team.”
Joining Dickerson at the event will be Mississippi State All-American Hunter Renfroe, a 2013 first round pick of the San Diego Padres. He was one of the key personnel in Mississippi State’s College World Series run last summer.
Also on hand will be Brent Leach, MLB reliever of the Milwaukee Brewers who is a local fan favorite among area youth because of his kids’ camps he has put on around the area in the last few years.
“I always like coming down to this area and working with the kids and coaches,” said Leach, who made his MLB debut with the L.A. Dodgers in 2010. “I look forward to seeing everyone.”
Boston Red Sox minor league outfielder Jervenski Johnson, an Amite, La., native that the Red Sox signed in July of 2013, will also be signing autographs and posing for pictures at the event. Johnson was recently named one of the top prospects in the Red Sox organization.
The event starts at 6 p.m. Jan. 9, and tickets are currently on sale at KDMC Performance Center for $25.
Each player will sign one autograph per ticket with inscriptions.
