WESSON – In less than a year, Jeff Long has taken the Franklin County soccer program to new heights, and FC soccer fans are looking toward the new year with a smile and optimism at a historic run in the 2014 state playoffs.
In a contest against Wesson, on the campus of Copiah-Lincoln Community College, the Bulldogs collected a 5-0 win over Wesson. Franklin High stands 11-0 overall and is first in district play.
Hoby Mullins and Greg Queen scored two goals each, while Johnny Moore added one goal. Kane Gillian and Kyle McCormick each had an assist.
The Bulldogs are currently one of the top 3A teams in the state. Over the last two seasons under Long the program has not lost a regular season game. FC is currently 31-0 in the regular season.
In last week’s 3-0 win over Wesson, Krislyn Kent scored two goals and Harley McKay one to keep the Lady Bulldogs undefeated this season.
Shelby Smith and Kent each added an assist.
Coached by Jeff Long and Stephanie McCormick, the Lady Bulldogs are looking forward to the playoffs with solid expectations of clinching a district title later this month.
Franklin High travels to North Pike Jan. 6, with game time slated for the girls at 5 p.m., followed by the boys at 6:30.
The Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs will be at home on Jan. 10, when they play host to Crystal Springs for a key district game. That girls/boys doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m.
