West Lincoln Bears, BC Lady Cats bag victories

The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats and West Lincoln Bears were victorious Friday night in Lincoln County Round-Robin Tournament basketball action in Loyd Star Gymnasium.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Cats cruised past the Lady Bears 56-31.
In boys’ action, West Lincoln flexed their muscles to thump the Bobcats 97-58.
Bogue Chitto returns to action Tuesday to host St. Aloysius for three games. The junior varsity boys tip off at 5 p.m., and the varsity girls are scheduled to start at 6, followed by the boys.
West Lincoln resumes basketball action Monday as they visit Meadville to battle the Franklin County Bulldogs for three games. The junior varsity boys are set to begin at 5 p.m. Game time for the varsity girls at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.
Bogue Chitto 53, W. Lincoln 31
The Lady Cats (10-2) roared to a 12-6 advantage after one quarter of action and cruised to a 28-8 lead at halftime
In the second half, the Lady Bears (1-8) and Bogue Chitto provided a typical defensive battle as the Lady Cats outscored West Lincoln 28-23.
Sophomore forward Christian Black pumped in a game-high double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead BC. Zariah Matthews contributed 12 points. Karlie Williams had 10 points.
“Offensively we were very sluggish to start the game,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “We shot poorly in the field and at the free-throw line, but the girls continued to hustle on defense to create turnovers. Overall, I was pleased with my girls’ effort.”
Sophomore guard Layton Sills was the offensive leader for the Lady Bears with nine points. Her sister, Bentley Sills chipped in with seven points. Hanna Moak led West Lincoln on the boards with four rebounds.
W. Lincoln 88, Bogue Chitto 47
The Bears came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter. West Lincoln’s high-octane offense and defense took control of the game and mauled the Bobcats for a 27-6 lead in the opening quarter.
West Lincoln (8-1) had four players score in double figures. Junior guard Duane Marshall drilled 25 points, 10 assists, seven rebounds and five steals to lead the charge. Sam Bivens netted 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Chase Buckles and Javion Mackabee contributed 10 points apiece.
“We played extremely well in spurts,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “Bogue Chitto did a great job competing throughout the game. We still need to keep improving. We were very sloppy and had no consistency in the game.”
Senior forward Dennis Rogers was the scoring leader for BC (2-10) with a game-high 32 points and eight rebounds. Jeremy Blackwell provided 10 points
“We got beat by a better team,” said BC coach Mark Pitts. “We were out played and coached in all phrases of the contest.”
