Funeral services for The Rev. Wiley Bliss Reid of Brookhaven were 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, at Friendship Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation was Friday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service.
The Rev. Reid, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Nov. 27, 2013. He passed away at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was born on June 3, 1931, to Lemmie Reid and Ruth Summers Reid.
Brother Wiley graduated from Fair Oak Springs High School and then was a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Mississippi College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served in the Korean Conflict from 1951-1954 with the United States Army where he was known as “Preacher.”
He surrendered to the ministry in 1950 and pastored for 62 years. He was able to pastor New Haven Baptist Church in Terry; New Salem Baptist Church in McCall Creek; First Baptist Church in Longville, La.; and Friendship Baptist Church in Brookhaven. After his retirement in 1996 from fulltime ministry, he was able to serve in 14 different interims.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Barry Bernard Reid and his brother, George Dewey Reid.
He is survived by his love, his wife of 58 years, Katie McManus Reid; his son, Lance Reid and wife Rhonda of Dickson, Tenn.; daughters, Robin Reid Vaughan and husband Tim of Brookhaven and Emily Carter and husband Clark of Glen Allan; daughter-in-law Vicki Reid Smith and husband, Tim; his sisters, Mary Hemphill and husband Don of Brookhaven, Sarah Berthelson and husband George of Rosemark, Tenn., and Billie Capozzi of Memphis, Tenn. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Friendship Baptist Church Building Fund.
