Bobcats clobber Eagles

PASCAGOULA – The No. 1 Bogue Chitto Bobcats remained undefeated, crushing the Resurrection Eagles 48-28 Friday night in Region 4-1A action.
BC (8-0, 6-0) overwhelmed the Eagles (3-5, 1-5) with a heavy rushing attack directed by Brock Roberts and Jermaine Blackwell.
The Bobcats received the ball on the opening kickoff and scored first when senior quarterback Brock Roberts connected with Damein Terrell on a 35-yard pass at the 10:41. Cameron Price’s PAT was good.
The Bobcats’ defense stood strong and forced Resurrection to turn the ball over on downs at the 8:27 mark of the first quarter. The Bobcats capitalized at the 5:36 mark when Brock Roberts kept the ball and punched it in for a 17-yard touchdown run. Cameron Price’s PAT was good.
At the 4:21 mark, the Eagles managed to get on the scoreboard when Larry Sisson connected with Christian Miller for a 26-yard touchdown pass. Whit Davis’ PAT was good for the Eagles.
BC continued to add to their lead when Jermaine Blackwell took the ball right up the middle for a 30-yard touchdown run with 2:51 left in the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter, the Bobcats led the Eagles 21-7.
In the second quarter, the Bobcats played a little sloppy with several turnovers to help Resurrection stay in the ballgame. The Bobcats fumbled the football at the 6:23 mark, and the Eagles recovered. At the 1:12 mark, Troy Cobb had a 18-yard reception for a touchdown. Whit Davis’ PAT was good.
The second turnover for the Bobcats came when Christian Miller came up with an interception with 0:05 left. BC went into the locker room with a 21-14 lead over the Eagles.
In the third quarter, the Eagles came out and scored fairly quickly to start the second half. Justice Sharp scored on a five-yard pass from Larry Sisson at the 10:34 mark of the third quarter.
After the Eagles tied it up, the Bobcats would answer the challenge and score at the 6:42 mark when Roberts ran it right up the middle for a two-yard touchdown run. Cameron Price’s PAT was good.
At the 4:14 mark, Resurrection charged back to tie it back up as Darius Kennedy made a 19-yard reception for a touchdown. Whit Davis’ PAT was good. At the end of the third quarter, the ballgame was tied up 28-28.
In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats finally woke up and were able to pull away with a 20-point explosion. Bogue Chitto’s scored at the 11:57 mark when Roberts took the ball in for a one-yard touchdown run. Cameron Price’s PAT was good.
At the 11:53 mark, the Bobcats kicked an onside kick and Matthew Black recovered it for Bogue Chitto. BC capitalized on the turnover when Eli Holmes caught a 44-yard pass reception for a touchdown at the 10:22 mark in the fourth quarter. Cameron Price’s PAT failed.
With 57 seconds left to go in the game, Jermaine Blackwell scored BC’s final touchdown on a four-yard run. Cameron Price’s PAT was good. At the end of the fourth quarter, the Bobcats beat the Eagles 48-28.
Offensively, Roberts paced the Bobcats with 29 carries for 221 yards and three touchdowns. He also completed eight of 11 pass attempts for 153 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Jermaine Blackwell helped the ground attack with 16 carries for 130 yards and two touchdowns.
Terrell was the top receiver with two catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. Holmes had two catches for 51 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Jeremy Blackwell led the team with 13 tackles. Kayin Perkins had eight tackles. Roberts had seven stops for the Bobcats. Terrell helped with five tackles and an interception. Matthew Black recovered a fumble.
Both teams will be on the road next week for Region 4-1A action. The Bobcats will travel to Utica to take on the Bulldogs of Hinds AHS. The Eagles visit Hattiesburg to battle Sacred Heart. Both games will be played at 7 p.m.
