MEADVILLE – A Meadville woman was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking in the left lane of traffic on the west-bound side of U.S. Highway 84 in Franklin County Saturday night, according to a report released Sunday by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Troopers responded to the accident at 10:25 p.m. Saturday near the Bude Baptist Church in Franklin County, according to Sgt. First Class Benjamin R. “Rusty” Boyd, public affairs officer for Troop M of the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
A 2006 Pontiac, driven by Amber Wilkinson, 22, of Meadville was west bound on Highway 82 when it struck pedestrian Hope E. Turner, 39, also of Meadville, according to Boyd. Turner was pronounced dead at the scene.
Boyd reported that Wilkinson lost control of her vehicle, which rolled over after the collision with Turner. Wilkinson was taken to Franklin County Hospital with minor injuries. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, troopers said.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
