Bobcats roll past Dexter

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats remain undefeated after they devouring the Dexter Bulldogs 43-16 Friday night in Region 4-1A football action at Troy Smith field.
“Offensively, we played well; we were able to have a balanced attack. Defensively we came up with five big turnovers to set up our offensive attack,” Said Bogue Chitto head coach Gareth Sartin. “Overall, I was very pleased with our effort on both sides of the ball.”
The Bobcats (6-0, 4-0) came out of the gates rolling and never looked back. Their first score of the came on a four-yard run by Jermaine Blackwell at the 5:18 mark of the first quarter. Price’s kick was good.
On the next possession, the Bobcats’ defense was able to hold quarterback Clifford Hernandez and the Bulldogs from scoring. Bogue Chitto’s offense was able to get the ball back, and at the 4:22 mark of the first quarter Jermaine Blackwell turned on the jets and scored on a 49-yard run. Price’s kick was no good.
In the second quarter, BC’s quarterback Brock Roberts was able to find the end zone on a one-yard keeper up the middle for the score at the 7:51 mark. Price’s kick was good this time.
On the Bobcats next offensive series, Damein Terrell fumbled the ball on the ground and Dexter recovered it at the 5:35 mark. The Bulldogs’ offense was not able to capitalize on the turnover.
At the 4:41 mark, Clifford Hernandez was under a lot of pressure from the Bobcats’ defensive line. He rushed his throw and was intercepted by Brock Roberts.
Roberts helped the Bobcats capitalize on the Dexter turnovers when he connected with Damein Terrell on a 75-yard pass at the 4:26 mark of the first half. Price’s kick was good.
At the 4:13 mark the Bobcats defense was able to come up with another big play when Kurtlyn Lions came up with another interception to set up the Bobcats offense with another chance to score.
The Bobcats’ offense was able to score again when Roberts hooked up with senior receiver Dennis Rodgers on a 31-yard pass at the 3:13 mark of the first half. The Bulldogs were now in panic mode because the Bobcats quickly jumped out to a 33-0 lead.
In the first half, Dexter just could not get anything going offensively. Clifford Hernandez threw another interception to Dakota McGary with 1:28 left to go in the half.
In the third quarter, Matthew Black recovered a Dexter fumble for the Bobcats at the 7:24 mark to set up the offense in good field position.
Roberts connected with Damein Terrell on a 16-yard pass at the 5:42 mark. Price’s kick was good.
On defense, BC came up with another turnover as defensive lineman Seth Hodges intercepted a pass and ran it back for 48 yards at the 3:53 mark to set up the Bobcats offense in good position. At the 1:46 mark Cameron Price made a 36-yard field goal to add on the Bobcats lead.
With one second left in the third quarter, Dexter’s offense finally found the end zone. Clifford Hernandez hooked up with Dabben McGowan on a 67-yard pass. The two-point conversion was good.
In the fourth quarter, Clifford Hernandez connected with Kendarius Lenoir on a 35-yard pass at the 2:42 mark. The Bulldogs were successful on the two-point conversion.
Offensively, Roberts led the Bobcats with 12 carries for 121 yards. Jermaine Blackwell had 11 carries for 137 yards. Deion Williams contributed eight rushes for 59 yards.
Roberts completed seven passes for 168 yards and one interception. Rogers had 59 receiving yards. Damein Terrell had 100 receiving yards.
Defensively, Jeremy Blackwell paced the team with 12 tackles. Justin Click contributed with 10 stops. Damein Terrell and Kayin Pepper had six tackles apiece. Kutlyn Lyons, Brock Roberts, Dakota McGary, Dennis Rodgers and Seth Hodges all had interceptions. Cameron Price and Matthew Black both had fumble recoveries.
The Bogue Chitto Bobcats (6-0, 4-0) will travel to the coast next weekend to play against the Resurrection Eagles Saturday at 7 p.m. The Dexter Bulldogs visit Stringer to face the Red Devils next Friday at 7 p.m.
