A private family service will be held for Betty Joyce Evans of Brookhaven in Wilmer, Ala. Riverwood Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Evans, 79, died June 20, 2013 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was born in Alabama on Feb. 17, 1934 to Edwin G. Evans and Fannie Lee Toy Evans.

She was an artist and art teacher in the Mobile, Ala. County School System and an active member of Church of God International. Ms. Evans was an accomplished artist, specializing in unique texture and design on wheel-thrown pottery.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Glenn Evans and Jack Evans.

Survivors are her sister, Beverly J. Leggett and husband, Jerry; nieces, Renee Ravenhorst, Susan Baskin, Tomma Petrus and husband, Eric; six great-nieces and two great-nephews.
