Fire damages 70 percent of local house

Early Friday morning, Brookhaven Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2124 Dixie Road.
BFD Fire Chief Tony Weeks said all the residents were able to leave their home without any injuries.
He said residents smelled something burning and discovered flames and smoke in a bedroom. They immediately left and called 911 at 5 a.m. Firefighters were on scene by 5:05 a.m.
As of this morning, BFD is unsure of what caused the fire, which damaged approximately 70 percent of the house.
Weeks said they will be investigating the origin of the fire over the next couple of days.
