Hartfield edges Bears

JACKSON – The Hartfield Academy Hawks erased a 7-4 deficit and rallied to beat West Lincoln’s Bears 10-7 Thursday night at rain-soaked Smith-Wills Stadium. Game 1 of the South Class 1A best-of-three series was moved from Brandon because of a wet field.
Game 2 is set for tonight at West Lincoln’s Bears Den, starting at 7 p.m.
Coach Steve Barrington’s built a 5-0, second-inning lead before the Hawks came alive. They held a 7-4 lead in the top of the fifth.
Senior southpaw Jared Case (5K, 6BB) went the distance and took the loss.
Hartfield’s Congan Green (5K, 2BB) picked up the win in relief of Bailey Canada (1K, 4BB) who started and lasted 2 innings. Canada gave up 5 runs.
At the plate, Lucas Burris and Case each had 2 hits for the Bears (8-14). Alex Neal doubled. Tanner Boutwell, Jeremy Burns, Tyler Moak and Brady Wilson singled.
Hartfield got a triple and a double from Ryan Wesson. Brewer Eldridge doubled twice and singled.
