The Loyd Star Lady Hornets whipped Bassfield 10-0 Thursday night at Loyd Star in Region 6-2A softball. Winning pitcher Kelsie McCullough struck out 10 batters, walked none and allowed 2 hits in the 5-inning shutout.

The Lady Hornets (8-7, 2-1) collected 11 hits in the victory. Third baseman Hannah Smith doubled twice and singled. Right-fielder Julie Smith and first baseman Ali Gartman singled twice. Lexie Butler, Lauren Norton, Raigan Smith and Megan Norton singled.

Loyd Star resumes play Monday, visiting the Brookhaven Lady Panthers. Junior varsity action begins at 5, followed by the varsity at 6.
