Hornets hack East Marion

On Friday, the Loyd Star Hornets trashed East Marion’s Eagles 22-1 on Smith Field in 5 innings.

Branden Canny pitched Loyd Star’s victory. He struck out 6 batters, walked 1 and gave up 1 run on 2 hits in 4 innings.

Braden Smith replaced Canny in the top of the fifth. He allowed 1 hit.

East Marion’s Michael Goldman was the losing pitcher. He walked 3 batters and fanned 1 in 2 innings.

Loyd Star accounted for 17 hits in the blowout, led by leftfielder Caleb Yarborough had 3 singles and a double, including RBI. Centerfielder Seth Farmer had 3 singles. Catcher Logan Smith doubled and singled, plus 3 RBI. Designated hitter Brett Calcote doubled and singled, collecting 3 RBI. Braden Smith and Josh Hodges singled twice. Canny and Lane Rogers singled.

East Marion’ s Eagles were led by Malik Melton, Deandre Johnson and Raheam McMorris singled.

The Hornets exploded for 8, first-inning runs. They added 6 more runs in the second and 7 in the third.

Junior Varsity Results

Loyd Stasr posted a 7-0 shutout in the JV game. Logan Smith pitched the win and Lane Smith slapped a 2-RBI single.
