Wolfpack sweep Trojans on cold day at Miss. Delta

MOORHEAD – The Co-Lin Wolfpack swept a doubleheader from the Mississippi Delta Trojans on a cold, windy Saturday in the Delta. The Wolfpack (7-7) rallied for 4 runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-4 win in the opener and pounded out 15 hits in a 12-4 win in the second game for Co-Lin boss Keith Case.

Co-Lin (7-7) will host Kellogg (MI) and East Mississippi on Wednesday in round-robin games. The Wolfpack take on Kellogg at noon. Kellogg will play East Mississippi at approximately 2:45 p.m. and Co-Lin will play East Mississippi in the finale at approximately 5:15 p.m.

Down 4-2 going into the top of the seventh inning, the Wolfpack rallied for 3 runs to take a 5-4 lead. Shortstop Ryan Young led off the inning with a single to centerfield. Trojan pitcher Dustin Lingle walked Dylan Anglin and Shane McKinley to load the bases. With 1 out, Gabe Wilson singled to left, scoring Young and Anglin and tied the game at 4-all.

Pinch runner Milton Griffin advanced to third on an error and scored on Caleb Dugas’s sacrifice fly to give the Wolfpack a 5-4 lead.

Co-Lin starter Tyler Simmons retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the win. Simmons allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, struck out 7 and walked none.

Austin Travis, a freshman from Brookhaven Academy, absorbed the loss, allowing 1 earned run, striking out 1 and walking 1 in .1 innings of work.

MDCC starter Turner Neely pitched 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out 7 and walking 2. Also seeing action were Lingle (2 ER, 1 H, 1BB) and Ben Fouche (1 H, 1 BB, 1 K, .2 innings).

At the plate for the Wolfpack, Wilson went 4-for-4 in the game with 3 RBIs. Matt Smith had an RBI double. Dugas had a single (1 RBI).

For the Trojans, Danny Springer had a 2-run home run. Adding support with a single apiece were Cody Marks, Eagle Weustney, Brandon Cummins, and Elgin Lafever.

Julio Rivera allowed 3 earned runs, scattered 5 hits, struck out 4 and walked none in 5 innings to pick up the win. Tyler Case relieved Rivera ,tossing the final 2 innings. Case allowed 1 run on 2 hits, struck out 1 and walked 2.

The Wolfpack took a 3-0 lead after 3 innings highlighted by a Christopher Perry RBI double.

In the fourth inning, Ryan Young’s RBI single and Milton Griffin’s 2-RBI single pushed Co-Lin’s lead to 6-1.

The Wolfpack added 6 runs in the top of the sixth inning, highlighted by a 3-run home run by Caleb Dugas.

The Trojans added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Absorbing the loss for the Trojans was Evan Hickman. He gave up 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits, struck out 2 and walked 1 in 3.1 innings of work. Also seeing action were Dustin Lingle (6 R. 6 H, 1 BB, 1 K, 2.1 innings), Matthew Shamoun (2 BB, .1 inning), and Austin Travis (1 H, 1 inning).

At the plate, Dylan Anglin led the Wolfpack’s 15-hit attack with a double and two singles. Christopher Perry doubled and singled. Griffin (2 RBIs) and Young had a pair of singles apiece. Gabe Wilson and Cole Page doubled. Caleb Dugas homered. Adding support with a single apiece were Matt Smith, Keith Martin, and Philip Lott.

Laine Jordan had a home run and a single to lead Mississippi Delta. Drew Scaiabarassi doubled and singled. Connor Osborne, Tyler Mize and Ben Fouche added a single apiece.
