Lake Okhissa in Bude will be the site of the first Pro/Am Bass Tournament for 36 area high school students. It will be held Saturday, April 27.
According to tournament director Buddy French of Monticello, 12 schools from this area: Brookhaven, Brookhaven Academy, Bogue Chitto, Enterprise, Loyd Star, West Lincoln, Lawrence County, Franklin County, McComb, Parklane Academy, North Pike and South Pike, are invited to participate. Each student wishing to participate is required to write a short essay explaining why they want to fish a bass tournament with a local angler.
The three best essays from each school will be selected. A total of 36 students will join area fishermen who will provide boats, fishing rods and lures for a half day of fishing and fun. French said area businesses and restaurants are generously providing drinks and food for the event.
French said response from area teachers and coaches has been enthusiastic. “It will be a fun event for everyone involved.”
A the conclusion of the tournament, prizes will be awarded and a school team champion will be determined. For more information, contact French at 601-954-1693.
