A single-car accident in Lincoln County resulted in a fatality over the weekend, said authorities.

Daniel Gill, 26, of Bogue Chitto, was driving northbound on Highway 51 when his vehicle veered off to the west near Montgomery Road and collided with a tree Sunday morning, according to information released by MHP Troop M Public Relations Officer Rusty Boyd.

Gill was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and was ejected from the vehicle following the collision, Boyd said. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Lincoln County Deputy Coroner Robert Tyler.

Gill was not wearing a seat belt, according to an MHP press release. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but Boyd cautioned there may not be much information to discover.

“The only person who can tell you what happened can’t tell us,” he said.

Troopers responded to the crash at 9:26 a.m. Sunday, but officials believe the crash occurred during the night.

“He had went so far off the road it took daylight for anyone to see it,” said Boyd.
