Brookhaven collects wins over Amite Co.

MCCOMB – Christen Benson scored 19 points and the Brookhaven Lady Panthers eluded Amite County’s Lady Trojans 66-63 Saturday in overtime. The Lady Panthers went unbeaten in the 3-day McComb Christmas Tournament.
The Panthers overpowered Amite County 44-33 as Khalil Newton pumped in 16 points.
Brookhaven resumes play Jan. 8, 2013, hosting the Bogue Chitto Bobcats in Sinclair Gymnasium.
The Lady Panthers (15-5) promised Coach Freda Craft that they would win it in overtime after battling to a 55-55 deadlock at the end of regulation. Jessica Wilson scored 6 of her 16 points in the overtime period, making 4 free throws and a field goal.
On the backboards, Fredericka Fairman grabbed 12 rebounds for BHS. Wilson had 6 rebounds. Benson dished out 5 assists.
LaMisheon Woodside scored a game-high 21 points for Amite.
The Panthers (11-9) got 10 points and 11 rebounds from Fred Trevillion. Martavious Brooks dished out 4 assists, helping his team to a 17-14 halftime lead.
“It was a slow-paced game but we managed to work the ball inside and set the tone,” said BHS boss Preston Wilson. “It feels good to win during the holidays.”
Wilson’s Panthers outscored the Trojans 27-19 in the second half. They lost to North Pike in the opening round but rebounded to beat Tylertown and Amite County back-to-back.
