Funeral services for Sherman Nelson Adams, of Brookhaven, are 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 3, at Brookhaven Funeral Home on Natchez Drive, with burial in Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Church Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday from 4 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Adams, 91, died Aug. 29, 2012, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 29, 1920, to Luther Blue and Maude Hammil Adams.
He was a native of Lincoln County and a longtime resident of Brookhaven. He was a Veteran of World War II and a medic in the European Campaign. Mr. Adams was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart and recommended for the Silver Star for Valor.
He worked in the Gulf oil field for 30 years and was a longtime member of Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife of 65 years, Callie Marie McCullough Adams; daughter, Glenda Adams Calcote; brothers, Austin “Buck” Adams and Robert Adams; sisters, Elsie Adams Freeman, Helen Adams Quinn and Virginia Adams Taylor.
Survivors are his sister, Doris Adams Britt; son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Carolyn Adams, of Brookhaven; daughters and sons-in-law, Sue (Stegall) and Mike Staley, of Ridgeland, and Cindy and Don Michael, of Brookhaven; son-in-law, Glen Calcote; grandchildren, Jerry Calcote, Ginger Calcote Parmentier, Shane Adams, Danny Stegall, Amy Stegall, Brian Stegall, Leslie Michael Smith and Kim Michael Townsend; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
There will be a reception held after the graveside services at Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Church.
