Funeral services for James Earl “Sonny Man” Smith Jr., of Vallejo, Calif., formerly of Brookhaven, are 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, at Center Street Church, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday from 1 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home, with the wake from 6 until 7 p.m.
Mr. Smith, 70, died May 8, 2012, at home in Brookhaven. He was born in Lincoln County on Dec. 12, 1941, to James Smith Sr. and Severa Smith.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors are his wife, Alberta Smith, of Vallejo, Calif.; devoted ex-wife, Cassie Mae Smith, of Vallejo, Calif.; sons, Calvin Smith and special friend, Noell Lee, of Fairfield, Calif., James Lee Wilson and wife, Carolyn, of Huntsville, Ala., and Thomas Smith and wife, Vickie, of Vallejo, Calif.; daughters, Thersa Smith, Lora Ann Smith, Latissa Smith, Lametricia Seil, all of Vallejo, Calif., Pam Smith, of Sacramento, Calif., Angela Wilson, of Brookhaven, and Sophia Blue and husband, Willard, of Brookhaven; brother, Wesley Smith and wife, Augusta, of Brookhaven; sisters, Mary Freeman and husband, Arthur Lee, Kathy Sutton and husband, Lester, Betsy Johnson and husband, Russell, all of Brookhaven, Lina Blackwell and husband, James, of Bogue Chitto, and Severa Tucker and husband, O.C., of Bogue Chitto; sister-in-law, Alberta Smith, of Brookhaven; uncle, Willie Smith and wife, Gladean, of Wesson; aunt, Shirley Wilson and husband, Fred, of Brookhaven; 28 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friend, Dave McKinney, of Vallejo, Calif.
