A private family graveside service for Sarah Jackson Newton, ofBrookhaven, was 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, at New ProspectBaptist Church. Riverwood Family Funeral Service was in charge ofarrangements.

Mrs. Newton, 85, died April 8, 2011, at her residence. She was bornin Mississippi on April 4, 1925, to George Washington Jackson andJane Rushing Jackson.

She was retired from BellSouth. She was a member of New ProspectBaptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, MarshallGrover Newton; eight brothers; and four sisters.

Survivors are her sons, David Jackson Newton, of Florida; herdaughter, Pamela Newton Norton, of Brookhaven; eight grandchildren;and eight great-grandchildren.
