Franklin Co. takes two over Loyd Star Hornets

MEADVILLE – The Franklin County Bulldogs picked up a pair ofhome wins over the Loyd Star Hornets. The Lady Bulldogs cruised toa 55-42 victory over the Lady Hornets.
In the boys’ game, Franklin County walloped the Hornets 50-35Thursday.
Loyd Star returns to action Monday, traveling to Monticello to takepart in the Lawrence County Thanksgiving Tournament. The Hornetswill face Magee. The girls game begins at 4 p.m. followed by theboys at 5:30.
Franklin Co. 55, Loyd Star 42
Vintrice Briggs led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 16 points.Kierra Collins provided 12 points. Jessica Jackson contributed 10points.
“We played three very good quarters,” Loyd Star coach Billy Vaughn.”This was a big improvement for us from the last time weplayed.”
Tyrisha Patterson pumped in a game-high 18 points, plus 10rebounds, 5 steals and a blocked shot to lead the Lady Hornets.Erica Smith provided assistance by netting 13 points.
Franklin Co. 50, Loyd Star 35
Derrick Bethley was the leading scorer for the Bulldogs with 9points. Antonio Green and Milton Griffin contributed 8 pointsapiece.
“We could not buy a basket in the first half,” said Loyd Star coachGene (Moochie) Britt. “Franklin County beat us on the boards.Overall, we battled hard and did our best to stay in thegame.”
Zach Smith had a career night, pumping in 16 points to lead theHornets. Holden Butler led the boards for Loyd Star, grabbing 7rebounds.
In junior varsity boys action, Franklin County prevailed 28-21 overLoyd Star. Troy Norman led the Bulldogs with 11 points. Anson Foxwas the leading scorer for the Hornets with 10 points.
