Griffin, Haynes lead LCHS past McComb

Lawrence County juniors Tiaria Griffin and David Haynes hadcareer-type nights in Day two of the Brookhaven InvitationalTournament Thursday night. Griffin pumped in a career-high 37points (6 treys) to lead the Lady Cougars to an 81-49 ream, steamand dry-clean of the McComb Lady Tigers in Brookhaven’s SinclairGym.
The 6-foot-4 Haynes had 36 points for head coach Pat Bridges,leading the Cougars to a double-overtime 78-77 win over thehighly-touted McComb Tigers.
It’s rivalry Saturday in the final day of tournament action. PikeCounty rivals South Pike and McComb get under way at 4 and 5:30p.m., followed by Brookhaven and Lawrence County at 7 and8:30.

Tiaria Griffin, using a nearly picture-perfect jumpshot, wasvirtually unstoppable all night long. Whether it was NBA-range3-pointers, or dribble penetration, her shot was falling from allangles.
The Lady Cougars (4-1) got support from junior guard Taylor Bristerwith 22 points. LCHS, coached by Vicki Rutland, led 20-8 after oneperiod and 35-19 at halftime. A 46-30 second half scoring spreeaided LCHS to the win.
For the Lady Tigers (0-3) coached by Angelia Johnson, juniorAndrekus Dexter scored a team-high 19 points.
Lawrence Co. 78, McComb 77
Leads seesawed throughout this 40-minute affair. McComb was withouttheir 6-foot-4 senior Dandy Dozen guard and Ole Miss signeeLadarius “Snoop” White, who had injured his right foot againstAmite County Tuesday night.
The Cougars (5-0) got help from Brandon Daniels (15 points) andAntonio Batiste (11 points), in pulling off the mild upset. LCHSused 22-10 second frame to lead 38-28 at the intermissionbreak.
Coached by Hilton Harrell, the Tigers (2-1) kept the game close.McComb outscored LCHS 30-20 in the second half, to register a58-all deadlock, forcing the extra sessions.
Kenyon Tobias, a 6-2 senior forward, scored 22 points for Tigers;followed by Rayfield Allen with 22 points. Trevosity Ellzey had 14points.
