Enterprise splits with West Lincoln

Senior guard Karla Beth Hux pumped in 24 points Tuesday night,sparking the Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets to a 48-35 win over thevisiting West Lincoln Lady Bears. Hux also had nine rebounds andthree steals.
In the varsity boys game, senior guard Jay Case tossed in 21 pointsas the Bears blasted Enterprise 64-43. Maurice Jackson joined Casein double figures with 13 points, plus five rebounds and twoblocked shots.
West Lincoln resumes play Thursday in the Bogue Chitto Tournament,meeting McLaurin at 4 and 5:30 p.m. in R.L. “Bob” CalhounGymnasium.
Enterprise participates in the Lawrence County Tournament nextMonday and Tuesday. The Jackets meet Mendenhall Monday at 1 and2:30 p.m.
The Lady Jackets (2-4) got 9 points and 6 rebounds from CaroleahBrister. Veonka Sanders grabbed 9 rebounds and netted 7points.
“We rebounded fairly well and we shot our free throws better, saidEnterprise coach Jill Nations. Her team made 15 of 25 freethrows.
West Lincoln (1-4) got 13 points from guard Karli Herrington and 11from post Katie Mullins. The Lady Bears were outscored 28-19 in thesecond half.
“We made a run in the fourth quarter and cut the lead but then wemade three straight turnovers,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young.”We need to protect the basketball better and pass the ballbetter.”
The Bears (5-0) roared to a 27-0 lead before Enterprise got on thescoreboard late in the first quarter. Lucas Burris and De Priceeach had 7 rebounds in the victory.
“We started the game really well,” said Young. “It was good to geteverybody some playing time but our subs need to do a better job ofprotecting a lead.”
The Jackets (0-6) got 18 points, 16 rebounds, 3 steals and 3assists from senior forward Sam Furr. Guard Thomas Allen tossed in16 points and Lance Spring grabbed 13 rebounds.
Enterprise coach John Knight said the Bears impressed him. “WestLincoln is an incredibly good team. If they were in our league,they could win district.
“We got off to a slow start,” Knight continued, “but we regroupedand played better the second half.”
Junior High Results
The Enterprise girls (6-0) whipped West Lincoln 43-11 in the juniorhigh game as Jessica Wilson sacked 11 points and Kayla Britt 7.Madison Franklin led the Lady Bears with 3 points.
West Lincoln’s boys beat Enterprise 40-22, directed by DuaneMarshall’s 24 points. Jarod Johnson scored 13 for the Jackets.
