Carrie Ola Britt Adams passed away peacefully on Sept. 23, 2010,at her home in Memphis, Tenn. She was a daughter of Caroline WalkerBritt and Elon Britt. She was born on her father’s farm on Aug. 20,1920. Mrs. Adams attended Whitworth College and graduated fromCopiah-Lincoln.
In her childhood days, she developed a lifelong love of all thingsoutdoors, especially plants and flowers. She and her husband,Luther Roy Adams, planted and cared for hundreds of azaleas andcamellias at their home on Meadowbrook Drive.
Throughout her life, her role as wife, mother, and daughter kepther busy. She had also been associated with W.B. Gregg Company.Mrs. Adams was an active participant in numerous church,neighborhood and community activities.
Following the death of her husband, Roy, in 2007, she moved toMemphis and enjoyed spending time with her family. She resided atCarriage Court Assisted Living Community, where she made many dearfriends. Her interests in later life included spending time withher great-grandchildren and nurturing her flowers and plants.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her daughter, Laila Adams Eckels; hergranddaughter, Amanda Adams Eckels Goetze; her great-grandchildren,Madeline Gwinn Adams Goetze and Richard Harrison Goetze, all ofMemphis; and her brother, Henry Alcus Britt, of San Diego,Calif.
Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church in Brookhavenon Monday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Jude’sChildren’s Research Hospital or Rhodes College.
Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
