Palmer moves to Lawrence Co.

Jaymie Palmer is going home to Lawrence County after nine yearsat Brookhaven High School. He will serve as offensive coordinatoron the LCHS football team that is under direction of Coach MikeDavis.
“It’s an opportunity for me,” said Palmer. “You are always excitedabout going home.”
Palmer, 33, is a 1995 LCHS graduate. He played baseball two yearsat Co-Lin for Coach Keith Case. He later transferred to SouthernMiss and majored in coaching and sports administration.
Palmer graduated from Alabama in 2000 with a degree in kinesiology.He was a graduate assistant for Coach Mike Dubose at Alabama. Hewas an assistant at Brookhaven from 2001-04, helping Coach TuckerPeavey’s Panthers capture the Class 4A state title in 2004.
In 2005, Palmer worked with Anthony Hart at Lafayette County. Herejoined the BHS staff from 2005-10. He teaches U.S. History.
At Lawrence County, Palmer is replacing Jesse Anderson who isleaving the coaching business.
“I’ve enjoyed my years coaching at Brookhaven,” said Palmer. “Ienjoyed working for Tucker, Dr. (Jay) Smith and superintendent LeaBarrett.”
Davis has known Palmer for a long time and coached with him on the1999 LCHS title team. “I’ve been talking to Jaymie for the lastthree years if he wanted to come back over here,” said Davis. “WhenAnderson decided to leave at Christmas, that opened a position fora history teacher. It worked out well for us.
“Jaymie’s a quality young man from a quality family. We are gettinga good coach, too.”
Palmer worked at Lawrence County in 1999 when Danny Adams coachedthe Cougars to the 4A state football championship.
“I’m looking forward to working for Mike because I know what kindof man he is,” said Palmer. “He will have discipline on his team.He’s a good Christian guy, too.
“I’m excited about it,” Palmer continued. “We are going to run thespread with a little I and split back. We will use the play-actionpassing, too.”
Palmer served as an assistant coach to BHS baseball boss RandySpring from 2001-2004. “I enjoyed being part of that championship(2004) team.”
Peavey said Palmer would be missed. “Jaymie has a chance to go backto his hometown. You never know when another opportunity like thatcomes along. It might be another 10 years.
“Jaymie is a good football coach. He’s a good person, too. I hateto lose him.”
Palmer also coached the powerlifting team at BHS, leading them to arunners-up finish in South State 5A this year. The Panthers placedeighth in Saturday’s state meet.
Palmer is married to the former Lori Meyers of Monticello. Theyhave a 4-year-old daughter, Anniston; and a 2-year-old son,Carter.
