Hornets rout Enterprise

Junior right-hander Tyler Case struck out 11 batters and walkedthree to power the host Loyd Star Hornets in a 13-3 rout of theEnterprise Yellow Jackets in a 6-inning, Region 6-2A varsitybaseball game Tuesday night. Case improved to 3-1 on the season ashe allowed five hits.
Loyd Star (8-4, 1-0) travels to Enterprise (2-6, 0-1) Friday nightfor a varsity doubleheader. The first game begins at 5 p.m.
“We came out flat tonight,” said Loyd Star head coach JonathanBreakfield. “We did not play good baseball. Enterprise’s (Jarrett)Todd did a good job keeping us off balance.”
The Hornets led the Jackets 7-3 entering the sixth inning. LoydStar exploded for six runs and that brought in the 10-run mercyrule to end the game.
“We gave them too many opportunities with our efforts,” saidEnterprise coach Cass Brister. “Jarrett Todd did a greatjob.”
Todd struck out 9 batters, walked 2 and hit 2 batters in theloss.
The Jackets committed four errors compared to the Hornets’ 2.
Powering Loyd Star at the plate with a booming, first-inning, solohome run was Marquis Hayes. Cody Smith, Kersey Allen, LeeboBairfield and Braden Canny smashed a double apiece. Singling wereTravis Keene, Logan Smith and Case.
Enterprise was led by Garrett Greer with a pair of singles. KonnerBurke, Jarrett Todd and Zach Stafford hit safely.
Junior Varsity Action
Loyd Star pounded Enterprise 8-0 in the JV game. Dylan Smith fanned5, walks 4 and hit 1 batter for the win.
The Hornets got a triple from Travis Sorrells. Austin Gtravis andCorey Funk doubled. Singling were Taylor Jones, Braden Canny, J.D.Sones, Dylan Smith and Brendan Brister.
Tanner Allen and Anthony Parrette singled for Enterprise.
