Lady Hornets enjoy revenge

Looking for revenge and respect Tuesday night, the Loyd StarLady Hornets avenged two previous losses to Enterprise and whippedthe Lady Yellow Jackets 61-38 in Division 6-2A action at Loyd Star.The Lady Hornets were led by forward Courtney Watts with 19 pointsand center Tyrisha Patterson with 17.
Loyd Star resumes division play Friday night at Hinds AHS inUtica. Enterprise hosts Puckett for division action Friday,starting with a JV girls game at 5 p.m.
The Lady Hornets (4-13, 3-3), in the midst of amajor rebuilding season, got Watts back just before Christmas asshe completed rehabilitation from knee surgery. Guard Erica Smith,also coming back from a torn ACL, scored 13 points last night.
“That’s the most complete game we’ve had all year,” said LoydStar girls coach Billy Vaughn. His team lost to Enterprise by fivepoints in overtime in the Lincoln County Round-Robin Tournament andby six points at Enterprise last month.
Vaughn’s Hornets overpowered Enterprise in the first half,leading 20-8 at the quarter and 31-13 at halftime. They led by 30points, 45-15 with 1:42 left in the third quarter as Patterson andSmith sacked back-to-back field goals and Watts netted a pair offree throws.
“We only had three turnovers the first half,” said Vaughn. “Thathas been a problem for us.”
On the backboards, Patterson grabbed 6 rebounds and Watts 5.Leah Britt made 7 assists and 5 steals. Anna Brooks made 6 assistsand Smith 5.
“We didn’t play well and we shot the ball poorly,” explainedEnterprise coach Jill Nations.
The Jackets (12-8, 3-3) were led by point guardKarla Beth Hux and forward Caroleah Brister with 11 points each.Senior forward Lacey Orr contributed 11 rebounds, 8 points and 4assists. Taylor Nelson grabbed 6 rebounds.

Enterprise clipped Loyd Star 35-33 in a preliminary JV game asCarly Price tossed in a game-high 17 points.
Loyd Star got 9 points from Natalie Keene and 8 from NatalieSmith.
