Multi-purpose facility back to original name

The Lincoln Center has gone back to its roots – at least as faras its name is concerned.

Lincoln County supervisors and the facility commission strippedaway the embattled name in a closed meeting Tuesday night and onceagain designated the facility as the Lincoln County Multi-PurposeComplex.

District Four Supervisor and Board President Doug Moak said thecommission would continue to consider new names for the facilityand make a recommendation later.

“For now, they decided it was in the best interest to change thename back to what it was,” he said.

Supervisors in December received a letter from the New YorkCity-based Lincoln Center for Performing Arts demanding the name ofthe local facility be changed to avoid trademark infringement.Several county officials suggested the name “Lincoln Center” wouldhave to be abandoned to avoid a potentially costly legal battlewith LCPA.

Tuesday night’s meeting was held almost entirely in executivesession for reasons of prospective litigation. Other countyofficials refused to comment on the discussion.
