Lady Wolves hike worksheet to 12-0

WESSON – Guard Latoria Holder likes her Co-Lin team and theirpotential for the 2010 portion of their season. Holder was one offive players in double figures Tuesday night as the Lady Wolvesdismantled the Delgado (La.) Community College Lady Dolphins 80-52in Mullen Gymnasium.

The victory raised Co-Lin’s record to a perfect 12-0 enteringthe holiday break. Currently, the Lady Wolves are ranked No. 6 inthe NJCAA national poll.

“I feel good about our team,” said Holder, a 5-foot-8 sophomorefrom Lumberton who is averaging 21.5 points per game. “We have tokeep working hard and playing as a team. We have a good mix.”

Holder’s skills have steadily improved. She said, “I’m improveda lot on my shots and my defense is better.”

Holder scored 12 points last night and got a second half breakfrom the action. Sophomore forward Shareka Hunt led Co-Lin with 13points. Freshman forward Brandi Simmons added 11 points and agame-high 9 rebounds. Freshman guard Naketa Roberts added 11 pointsand 5 rebounds. Freshman guard Allison Boyd came off the bench andscored 10 points.

The Wolves led 45-16 at halftime and reserves played most of thesecond half.

“Going 12-0 is a good first half (season) for us,” said Co-Linwomen’s coach Gwyn Young. “Hopefully, we can get all of our playershealthy for the second half.”

Young said sophomore starter Rachel Vigers has been slowed by astrained Achilles tendon for the past month. Alicia Kelly (nose)and Erin Hopkins (ankle) were both injured in Monday’spractice.

Co-Lin, 2-0 in the South Division, resumes play Jan. 5, hostingHolmes Community College.

Delgado (5-9) lost for the third time to Co-Lin this season. TheDolphins were led by Larissa Owens with 11 points and ChristineConner with 10.
