Bank robbers get cash in noon heist

ROXIE – Authorities are searching for three male suspects in abank robbery that took place in Franklin County Wednesday aroundlunch time, authorities said.
Franklin County Sheriff James Newman said two men wearing masks,gloves and full camouflage entered the Roxie branch of Bank ofFranklin around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and overpowered the tellers andforced them to open the register.
“It was a quick entry and a quick exit, and they robbed the bankof an undetermined amount of money, and they exited the area,”Newman said.
Officials are keying on a small white pickup truck they believewas the getaway vehicle. Newman said the truck, which is probablythe size of an extended cab Ford Ranger or Chevrolet S-10, may havelightly tinted windows and possibly an antenna on it.
“We’re looking for at least three subjects at this time,” hesaid. “We feel comfortable that the white truck is a vehicle ofinterest.”
Newman said as the probe goes on, officials hope to find outmore about their suspects, but that at this point their best leadis the truck.
“At this point we’re just working to try to developinformation,” he said. “We’re not eliminating anything, but we’rekeying on this right now. While we’re open minded, I stronglybelieve we’re looking for two male suspects with a subject drivingthe getaway vehicle.”
Newman said the bank does have security cameras, but that theyhave not been helpful so far because the suspects were masked andgloved.
Bank of Franklin President Brad Jones said bank officials arereviewing the situation, but otherwise trying to just get thingsback to normal.
“We make sure everyone’s aware of what happened and how, and wetalk about what steps we need to take, and then frankly we go backto banking,” Jones said. “The important thing is that nobody washurt.”
Jones said the two tellers involved in the incident were toldthat they could take some time off.
“They were insistent on being back at work today,” he saidThursday morning.
Bank officials are confident that law enforcement working thecase will continue to do a thorough job.
“It’s under investigation right now, and these guys are doingtheir jobs,” Jones said. “We’re hopeful they’ll solve it.”
