Gospel Jubilee set for Fri., Sat.

The McCall Creek Community Center is going to be overrun withgospel singing jubilation at this weekend’s Gospel SingingJubilee.

The singers and strummers from six gospel groups, whose stylesrange from old-fashioned quartet to throw-down bluegrass, arescheduled to perform in a two-day show beginning Friday afternoonat the center on Burt Jordan Road, just inside Franklin County. TheGospel Singing Jubilee is the largest of the center’s three annualgospel shows, and owner/manager/singer Charles Case is expectingmore than 300 people to show up and jubilate.

Some RVs have already rolled into the center’s 40-spacecampground.

“This weekend’s gospel singing is the big show,” Case said.”We’ve got people coming in from Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas,Arkansas and Alabama.”

The music begins Friday at 5 p.m. and continues until around 10p.m., picking back up the next day at 4 p.m. The center’s largeconcession stand, which serves what Case said was the “best catfishplate you’ve ever had,” opens an hour before singing each day.

Scheduled to perform at the jubilee are The Messengers, afive-man singing group made up of local vocalists and the center’smanagement. Case sings in the group, along with center managersDavid and Susan England of Brandon, Monticello’s David Dunn andBrookhaven’s Donald Porter.

Also appearing will be The Singing Echoes of Cleveland, Tenn.;Tim Fritz and the Gospel Echoes of Pearl; L and M Bluegrass; HiRoad of Nashville, featuring Meadville native fiddler Anna GraceKimbrough; and Main Street Bluegrass of Lincoln County.
