Bond has been set for a Jefferson Davis County man accused inthe Wednesday night shooting of a Lawrence County man that left himin critical condition at the University of Mississippi MedicalCenter.
Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Ray Smith said AlvonRandolph, 36, remains in the Lawrence County Jail and bond has beenset at $100,000.
“There’s nothing new in the case at this point except the bondbeing set,” Smith said. “We really don’t have any new word from thevictim at this point.”
As of Friday afternoon, Anthony Brown, 41, was still in criticalcondition, UMC officials said. Smith said he was taken to UMC byhelicopter with a gunshot wound to the head and one to the arm andshoulder area.
Brown was shot at 45 Rose Hill Road in Silver Creek Wednesdaynight after an altercation with Randolph that officials originallyspeculated might be over a girlfriend.
“I’m not sure if that’s the whole cause, unless he just happenedto go overboard about it that day,” Smith said. “We just don’tknow, and we may never actually know the whole thing.”
Randolph turned himself in to authorities, Smith said. He isbeing held on charges of aggravated assault.
The address on Rose Hill Road, which amounts really to nothingmore than a few trailers with vehicles that drive in and out of theyard, has served as a “juke joint” or “social hotspot” in recentyears, area residents said.
It is also the location of what authorities said is one ofLawrence County’s most brutal slayings. In November 2008, sevenpeople were charged in conjunction with the ambush-style assaultthat left Richard Bernard Barnes, 25, dead and three otherswounded.
“This has just started,” Smith said. “We’ve never had a problemover there, before these last two times.”
All of the accused in the November assault are currentlyawaiting trial, Smith said.
